There's nothing better than a warm, boozy beverage after a snowy day skiing Solitude's Honeycomb Canyon. We asked The Thirsty Squirrel's bartenders to whip up their favorite hot drink for aprés ski.
The Thirsty Squirrel is a classic après ski bar where still-booted and besweatered skiers flop down and belly up after a day on the on the mountain. Behind the bar you’ll find bartender Ketti Wehrle swapping ski tales over her famous Honeycomb Toddy. “I love bartending at Solitude for the social aspect,” Wherle says. “Everyone comes off the hill excited about their ski day and the energy in the bar is great.”
HONEYCOMB TODDY
1 Tbsp. honey
5–6 whole cloves
1 lemon wheel
1 fresh cinnamon stick
1 chai tea bag
1 1/2 oz. High West double rye whiskey
6 oz. boiling water
1 lemon twist (for garnish)
Place cloves, honey, lemon wheel, cinnamon stick, and chai tea in snifter glass with boiling water to steep. Let sit for 2–3 minutes. Squeeze out the tea bag for a full strength tea and then top with your favorite bourbon or whiskey. Garnish with a lemon twist.
