LGBTQ Things to Do in Salt Lake

COVID-19 Edition

Thursday September 10, 2020

In the age of coronavirus, we all need to do our part to wear masks, wash our hands, and especially avoid large crowds. With this in mind, we have rounded up some highlights of queer and queer adjacent things to do while social distancing.

Support Queer Restaurants

Moudi Sbeity at Laziz Kitchen

Laziz Kitchen

Dine on some of the best Middle Eastern food in town at this fast-casual restaurant featured on an episode of Diners, Drive-in, and Dives. Owner, Moudi Sbeity was recently featured in our Salt of the Earth video series, where you can learn more about the restaurant’s beginning.

Experience Music and Art

"Changing the Game" post-film Q&A at the 2019 Damn These Heels Festival.

Damn These Heels Film Festival

Each July, Salt Lake hosts a queer film festival called Damn These Heels Film Festival. This year, of course, the festival was all virtual. But, we encourage you to check out some of the groundbreaking films aired this year.

Check Out Some Attractions

Walking at Red Butte Gardens

Red Butte Garden

Take a visit to one of the city’s most visited and highly-regarded attractions, the Red Butte Garden. This urban oasis houses some of the most beautiful plants imaginable and is certainly worth the trip. Due to COVID restrictions, all visits must be scheduled ahead of time on the garden’s website.

Equality Utah Billboard

Queer Billboards

Experience Utah’s queer history through a series of beautiful billboards put up by Equality Utah. Starting September 1st, look for all 14 billboards all throughout the city!

Miscellaneous Activities

Pride 2.0 Road Rally

Come celebrate with us on Coming Out Day for the first annual Pride Road Rally where everyone is invited to come out to drag Main! Due to the pandemic, the Utah Pride Center is getting creative this year to keep the center’s life-saving programs and services available to the LGBTQ+ community. Keeping social distancing and state guidelines in mind, the Utah Pride Center has been given authorization by Salt Lake City and the Utah Health Department to organize PRIDE 2.0.

Rather than decorated floats and tens of thousands of people packed into 7 blocks downtown, everyone in our community is invited to decorate their cars and join in the Road Rally on a long stretch of Main Street.
