Salt Palace Convention Center Announces Monica Ortega As Director Of Operations
The Salt Palace Convention Center is proud to announce the promotion of Monica Ortega to Director of Operations. Monica's appointment is a testament to what determination, resilience, and a relentless commitment to growth can achieve. She is a reflection of our belief that exceptional leaders are built from the inside out.
A Journey Built from the Ground Up
Monica joined the Salt Palace in 2018 as part of the operations crew. By 2019, she was promoted to full-time Supervisor through the dedication and initiative she brought to the role every day. In 2020, she advanced to Assistant Manager, expanding her expertise to include administrative responsibilities and housekeeping operations. In 2024, she stepped into the role of Assistant Director of Operations, where she deepened her knowledge of sustainability, engineering, and crafts while taking on significantly increased responsibilities across both venues.
Monica's path was built entirely through hands-on experience, persistence, and a willingness to learn every facet of operations from the ground up. Monica takes pride in working hard, staying persistent, and pursuing opportunities with focus and commitment.
"At a young age, I turned my greatest challenge into my strongest motivation," Monica reflects. As a single mother, balancing work and family taught her that resilience, adaptability, and accountability are daily commitments. Everything she has achieved has been driven by that foundation.
"I'm incredibly proud that my growth into this leadership role reflects years of hard work, mentorship, and practical experience within the industry," she shares.
Leadership Excellence
Monica's leadership philosophy is leading by example, working alongside her team rather than directing from a distance.
"I don't view myself simply as a boss, but as a partner in achieving our shared goals," Monica says.
Monica works to maintain an open-door approach where team members feel comfortable bringing feedback, raising concerns, and working together toward solutions. This approach is built around open communication, active listening, and collaborative problem-solving.
She is also a voice of encouragement for those who may doubt their own potential. Monica encourages her staff to not limit themselves or sell themselves short. Monica is an example that success does not require formal credentials; it requires determination, resilience, and belief in yourself, and she continues to remind her staff of that.
A Vision for the Future
In this role, her primary goal is to unify the Operations team through strong communication and alignment. She is committed to ensuring every team member feels connected and valued, while also bridging any gaps between Operations and Administration. The Operations team plays a critical role in driving the success of every event and maintaining the integrity of the building. Monica is committed to making sure that contribution is always recognized, celebrated, and supported.
"I am honored to step into this new role and excited for the opportunity to positively impact the morale and culture of our Operations team," Monica shares. "With upcoming construction and building improvements, we have a unique opportunity to reimagine how we operate — leveraging new equipment, refining processes, and fully maximizing the talent of our exceptional team to elevate overall performance."
