While the tradition of Oktoberfest is tied to the German city of Munich, you don’t necessarily need a passport and plane ticket to partake in this iconic folk and beer festival.

Influenced by German American populations and the popularity of fall festivals, there are Oktoberfests across the country that bring this German tradition closer to home or near you.

Held at venues ranging from resorts to community spaces, these top Oktoberfests across the United States will encourage you to enjoy a plate of bratwurst, raise a glass and say “Proust!”

Snowbird’s Oktoberfest is one of the largest festivals in Utah.

This ski resort in Utah puts on an Oktoberfest every Saturday and Sunday now through early October.

As Utah’s original Oktoberfest, which began in 1972, Oktoberfest at Snowbird is a family-friendly weekend with a schedule of various events, including live music lineups.

The annual festival includes a biergarten serving traditional German-style beers and other selections made by Utah breweries. Other highlights include an array of local vendors and German food favorites such as bratwurst, weisswurst, sauerkraut, apple strudel and pretzels. Also, don’t miss the alphorns of Salzburger Echo heralding atop Hidden Peak.
