Safety & Security Committee

Foster a culture that prioritizes safety as our number one priority and as a result, protects all levels of our staff, clients, and partners.

Internal Culture:

Through our Brilliant at the Basics program, all staff are trained on “if you see something, say something.” All reports of suspicious activity are sent to Guest Services, which are then investigated thoroughly.

Live training is done routinely for crisis response. This includes building evacuation in case of fire or Run-Hide-Fight programming in the event of an active shooter scenario.

We follow all OSHA guidelines and regulations, ensuring staff have proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and are trained on proper safety measures across all departments.

External Partnerships:

We have established structured partnerships with local EMT, fire, and police departments to ensure a safe event environment for our clients and their attendees.

Our crisis response plan is not just for staff. A customized event plan is shared with all clients prior to their event and is an active part of every pre-convention meeting we hold. We use best practices from the Utah PIO Association and other emergency preparedness experts.

Clients receive our Keeping You Safe at the Salt Palace/Mountain America Expo Center document, which helps empower others to promote a safe environment for themselves, as well as sharing our standard safety procedures taken to ensure their safety.

New Targets:

Prior to COVID-19, we were developing an external Safety & Security Committee. This included some of our convention district hotels, other event venues, and more. We hope to get this off the ground sometime in 2021, building a safer city for us all.

Exciting announcements regarding COVID-19 response and reactivation coming soon...
