Partnership

Foster community partnerships to accomplish and celebrate the sustainable hospitality pledges.

Internal Culture:

Partnership is a part of Salt Lake’s ethos as a convention destination. This is our single most important sustainable hospitality pledge, as it is key to achieving the other sixteen, and one we are giving a little more space to tell the story.

We encourage all of our departments to be partners to one another, with all of them working together and eliminating any places where we are working against one another (it’s bound to happen somewhere!).

We hold weekly meetings to stay connected and creative. This includes a traditional staff, detail-oriented production, and one of our four weekly committee meetings.

The 4P’s drive us to success (picture to the right).

External Partnerships:

We encourage all events to have pre-planning visits, pre-convention meetings, and of course, as many virtual calls and meetings prior onsite arrival as needed.

We have incredibly developed and strategic partnerships with entities outside the venues such general service contractors, hotels, and all of the key convention partners.

The Green Team Committee is one of the most unique things we have in our You Are Here experience. Our two venues partner with Visit Salt Lake, Centerplate, and PSAV on sustainable events. These five organizations currently hold four Events Industry Council Sustainable Event Standards (most in the events industry). This has made us one of the world’s most sustainable trade show destinations.

The Green Team partners with over 100 nonprofits and small businesses to execute an industry-leading community impact award. We’ve mentioned this in a few other goals (because we take pride here), it has resulted in over 700,000 pounds and over $1 million in in-kind donations (via our clients trade show materials).

The Green Team is also on the leadership teams for the Utah Climate Action Network, Utah Sustainable Business Coalition, and Utah Recycling Alliance. We also work with Salt Lake City’s Sustainability Department. Our city/state are committed to achieving zero carbon and zero waste.

Our Safety & Security Committee is working with local hotels and other venues to develop and execute best practices.

As mentioned previously, we support and work with the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM) and Events Industry Council (EIC) to create a better industry.

New Targets:

The Green Team Committee is currently working with hotels and local general service contractors on adding more supplier EIC certifications. In addition, we are the first destination to offer event clients a program to certify their event to sustainability (click here to read more).

Each of our committees (Customer Service/Safety & Security/Diversity & Community/Green Team) are examining ways to partner with local hospitality groups to further the pledges. We want each committee to have a diverse group of partnerships so our entire destination can maximize these areas.

COVID-19 transformation: For our industry to recover and thrive once more, we need partnership. According to the EIC, we are a $1 trillion industry annually. Together we can rebuild and continue to lead our global economy to collaboration and face to face benefits across all sectors of work.

As we mention in Pledge 8: Business, we want to create sustainability and circularity in our business design. To achieve this, we need diversified partnerships across hospitality, technology, project management, and social equity. If you’re interested in being a part of this, we offer four levels of ways to engage as a partner (pictured to the right). Some partnership levels are free to join and others have sponsor opportunities that can benefit your own mission.
