Green Space

Offer living buildings by incorporating nature-based environments, such as plants, gardens, and more in our work spaces.

Internal Culture:

The Salt Palace Japanese Garden (on 100 South) acts as the pollinating sanctuary for four beehives. 2019 saw our hives threatened by mites and our sole survivor (the queen and her hive) are named Resiliency in connection with our industries' struggle against COVID-19. This is a shining example of how nature can inspire us.

We invite staff to visit the garden and beehives, finding mindfulness and meditation from our green space.

We encourage a green thumb for staff via education and gardening challenges in the spring.

Landscaping consists of native plants (such as sawgrass and rocky mountain junipers), drought-resistant plants, as well as xeriscaping designs, where possible.

External Partnerships:

Our partnership with Hilton City Center has inspired us to make staff a part of our beehive journey. We now provide routine updates through The Hive Newsletter.

We employ Peter Nelson, the Salt Lake County Bee Inspector, to care for the bees. He helps us tell the story of how critical our little bee friends are for the ecosystem. Over 1/3rd of the crops humans rely on need these pollinators.

New Targets:

We want to create a living building environment by bringing more natural light and arboretums to our open spaces (indoors and outdoors).

We hope to install rooftop gardens at some point. These gardens would utilize hydroponics and vertical gardens technology to benefit food & beverage operations.
