Dumke Jr.  Auditorium6:45–7:30 pm* | HIV/AIDS Activism Poster making workshop, led by Cyan Larson, UMFA Classroom7:30–9 pm | Explore Museum*Refreshments served during poster making workshopGather at UMFA for an evening of events to discuss, reflect, and learn about the AIDS epidemic and how it continues to affect the world today. Youth and community leaders will lead a discussion regarding their personal experiences and research, and invite audience members to contribute to the discussion. Then, make posters in the UMFA classroom, drawing inspiration from important artists impacted by the AIDS epidemic. As we create posters together, participants are urged to consider the issues that are still happening today as consequences of the aids epidemic.UMFA will cover Viola Frey’s Ethnic Man (1991) in recognition of Day With(out) Art. A reoccurring event since 1989, Day With(out) Art coordinates action from more than 8,000 participating organizations worldwide to celebrate the lives and achievements of those lost to AIDS, encourage caring for all people with AIDS, educate publics about HIV infection, and keep alive the hope to find a cure.Presented in partnership with:U of U LGBT Resource CenterSQuARE: Students for Queer Art, Resistance, and EducationPlanned Parenthood’s Teen CouncilVisual AIDS
