The public is invited to the dedication of a life-sized monument of Chief Sanpitch in Mount Pleasant, Utah. This powerful Native American's story is significant to the history and naming of Sanpete county. In a county whose Mormon history is celebrated, it is important to remember the original people. This powerful monument reminds us of a man who promoted peace and culture during a time of violence. The bronzed sculpture created by local artist Brad Taggart will be utilized as a visual, cultural, historical, and educational tool, placed in a prominent location on Highway 89. Ute leaders have committed their time to dedicate the monument with a pow wow.
