Talks & Lectures | Charles Savage: Pioneer(ing) Photographer | Leslie Anderson, UMFA curator

Wed, Apr 10
Salt Lake City photographer Charles Roscoe Savage (1832-1909) recorded the construction of the Union Pacific line in Utah alongside Andrew J. Russell including the wedding of the rails on May 10, 1869. Savvy Savage realized quickly the marketing potential of the momentous occasion, as well as the implications of the modern mode of transportation on Euro-American settlement and tourism. This talk will examine the career of a pioneer(ing) photographer and the global reach of the local motifs he captured.Exhibition Programming & Lecture Sponsor: The Hal R. and Naoma J.
