Poetry Series: Kara Van De Graaf and Mahtem Shiferraw

Westminster College presents the Anne Newman Sutton Weeks Poetry Series event schedule. Free readings begin at 7 p.m. in the Kim T. Adamson Alumni HouseKara Van De Graaf is the author of “Spitting Image,” winner of the Crab Orchard First Book Prize in Poetry. She is co-founder and editor of Lightbox Poetry, an online educational resource for poetry in the classroom (lightboxpoetry.com) and serves as assistant professor of creative writing at Utah Valley University.Mahtem Shiferraw is a writer and visual artist from Ethiopia and Eritrea. Her work has been published in her chapbook, “Behind Walls & Glass,” and two full length books: “Fuchsia,” which won the Sillerman Prize for African Poets from the University of Nebraska Press; and “Your Body Is War,” new this year. She is the executive director of college initiatives at Otis College in Los Angeles.
