Pedrito Martinez Group

Cuban-born percussionist Pedrito Martinez is an acclaimed musician who plays a dynamic mix of traditional Cuban rumba, Afro-Latin jazz, and Spanish flamenco music. Born in Havana in 1973, Martinez quickly established himself as a world-class percussionist and took first place in the inaugural Afro-Latin Hand Drumming portion of the 2000 Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition. Working with such artists as Claudia Acuña, Eliane Elias, and Brian Lynch, he has quickly established himself as the go-to percussionist. Pedrito’s career as a leader began in 2005 with the formation of The Pedrito Martinez Group. The group’s Grammy-nominated first album was released in 2013 and was chosen among NPR’s Favorite Albums of 2013 and The Boston Globe Critics Top Ten Albums of 2013. Habana Dreams, PMG’s second album, was released in June 2016. Accolades for Habana Dreams include #1 Latin Jazz Album in NPR’s Jazz Critics Top Jazz Albums for 2016.
