About this eventNoticing, Wondering, and Creating in the Science and Art ClassroomIn this virtual workshop presented by Southern Utah University and Weber State University, participants will listen to presentations on an overview of the NEW Utah SEEd standards and engage in hands-on workshops that explore science and visual art standards. Explore lessons that can be implemented in your K-6 classroom and support high-quality arts and science integration!Levitating Rainbows: Science, Adam Johnston, Weber State UniversityScience, like lots of human activity and inquiry, starts with observing. Interestingly, there are lots of different ways to see the world, make sense of what we’re noticing, and ask questions both big and small. In this workshop, we’ll take a simple looking phenomenon that can be used in multiple contexts and grade-levels and then use it to find new ways to notice, wonder, and create meaning.Art of Iridescence: Visual Art, Alisa Petersen, Southern Utah UniversityWe will begin by exploring images of both natural and human-made iridescent objects including insect wings, soap bubbles, bird feathers, fashion, furniture, lighting and art. Next we will experiment with simple materials to create iridescent papers which we will use in tiny works of art. Finally we will discuss how artists often experiment with materials to find unique and beautiful ways to represent their ideas.Where: Virtual ZoomWhen: Thursday, November 4, 2021, log-in at 4:45 PM, workshop starts PROMPTLY at 5:00 PM.
