Irish Workers on the Transcontinental Railroad in Comparative Perspective

Born and raised in Ireland, Dr. McCarron earned his Ph.D. in history from Georgetown University (2016) and holds a Bachelors (2004) and Masters (2004) degrees from the University College Dublin, and has held research fellowships from the Universities of Melbourne and Oxford. McCarron’s work focuses on the global Irish and Chinese, in the U.S., the British Empire, and the broader Pacific world.The evening will also include the Inter-mountain West launch of New York University’s “Irish Railroad Workers in North America Project.”Traditional Irish music will be performed by local band, Red Branch. Light refreshments by the Hibernian Society of Utah will be served.
