The Salt Lake City Arts Council is pleased to present its newest exhibition featuring artists Heidi Almosara, Nathan Mulford and Kasey Lindley at the Finch Lane Gallery, October 2 through November 13, 2020. As Salt Lake City adjusts to a new way of life amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the Salt Lake City Arts Council believes that the arts are integral to creative solutions, critical conversations, community building, and healing. We also continue to prioritize the health and safety of our community and staff. In compliance with the Utah Leads Together and CDC recommendations, we have limited hours and gallery visits are by appointment only. Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangement in which nature and humanity are brought together in harmony. Botanical Concrete features Almosara’s botanical sculptures created with dried plant materials and inverted cast concrete and her drawings, which represent past ikebana creations. Nathan Mulford, TributariesWater erosion serves as an important metaphor for Nathan Mulford’s Tributaries. Water erosion reveals the age of our planet, uncovers treasures from the past and provides a perspective of where we fit into the history of our planet. Mulford’s painting process replicates the way a flowing body of water can change its course throughout time and, by doing so, alter the landscape of the surrounding area. Mulford imposes logic and geometry to the canvas the same way we, as humans, impose our logic on the landscape, only to have it marred by the power of nature. Kasey Lindley, Mother:LandscapeMother:Landscape is a multimedia response to and an exploration of environmental concerns and Ecofeminitist theory. Kasey Lindley presents visual interpretations of the Utah landscape, along with ruminations on the correlation between the treatment of the natural world and women within a patriarchal society. Juxtaposed with these larger themes, Mother:Landscape evokes a purposefully awkward and playful sense of energy and humor.
