    Our 2020 celebration of Beethoven’s 250th birthday continues with this season-opening concert, which launches a cycle of Beethoven’s piano concertos featuring world-renowned pianists.British pianist Stephen Hough returns to perform Beethoven’s monumental Emperor Concerto, a virtuosic showpiece for a solo pianist with orchestra that premiered in 1811.Brahms shows us his lighter side with one of his most popular pieces – a raucous, tongue-in-cheek medley celebrating student merriment.Maestro Fischer rounds out the program with music from a tall tale operas by Weber as well as a symphonic poem depicting Elgar’s trip to the Italian Riviera in 1903.
