Announcement of Facility Closure: Covid-19

Due to the continued and ongoing health risks associated with Covid-19 (coronavirus), the Salt Lake County Mayor, and Salt Lake County Health Department have imposed mandatory event cancellations/postponements at specific Salt Lake County owned facilities, including The Salt Lake County Equestrian Park & Event Center. At this time all events are postponed or canceled through June 30, 2020. For information regarding a specific event, we advise you to contact the event directly (including information concerning registration and ticketing). The facility remains closed to the public through June 30, 2020, with exceptions for boarders providing care and attention to their horses, and some limited passholder usage.

*Outdoor Arenas & Racetrack during COVID-19 Closure

May 1, 2020



The Salt Lake County Equestrian Park will open outdoor arenas and the racetrack for facility boarders and passholders from 9 am to 9 pm Monday- Saturday, and 9-5 on Sundays, starting Friday, May 1, 2020.


Use of the facility will maintain compliance with Salt Lake County Public Health Order to include social distancing of at least 6-feet between all people at the facility and with limited social density.


Use of the facility is by reservation only. Reservations for the arenas or racetrack will be managed by the Equestrian Park office personnel. Boarders and or passholders can call in the day prior to reserve their spots 385-468-1600.


All outdoor arenas - only 5 people allowed per one-hour timeslot. 


Racetrack – only 3 people allowed on the track per one-hour timeslot. 


Indoor arena – not available currently.



Equestrian Park staff will monitor the arena and racetrack to ensure only the assigned boarders and or passholders are present. Boarders and or passholders without a reservation will be asked to leave the arena or racetrack.


Compliance to the social distancing rules will be closely monitored by Equestrian Park staff. If people do not adhere to the Salt Lake County Health Order, the park will close the track and arenas.


Passholders that have already purchased a pass prior to the park closing will have their pass extended by 48 days; the number of days the park was closed.

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) 

In an effort to provide attendees and events with up-to-date information and communication regarding COVID-19, this update will be sent out on a weekly basis. As the managing firm (SMG) of the Salt Palace Convention Center, Mountain America Expo Center, & Salt Lake County Equestrian Park, we are dedicated in providing clear and direct information during this time of growing concern. We are in close communication with; SMG corporate offices, Salt Lake County Health Department, and the Utah State Health Department. We will provide updates from these resources in a timely manner. 


Communication established in the past few weeks remains strong as we closely monitor all new and current information. Along with local health department information, we are working closely with our corporate offices to determine ongoing risks and concerns. 


As informed the by Salt Lake County Health Department through interim guidance for mass gatherings, we have instituted the following safety precautions at our managed facilities: (Procedures will continue during facility closure)

  • Hand sanitizer placement in public spaces.

  • Tissue placement in public spaces.

  • The promotion of everyday preventive actions with staff. Click Here

  • The promotion of cough, sneeze, and handwashing etiquette posters throughout the facility.

  • Infectious disease entry notifications.

  • Notices from the CDC have been distributed to staff in an ongoing effort to educate and inform in preparation for potential health risks. 

  • While we have not received specific instructions to change our housekeeping practices, we have increased the frequency that we wipe down and clean surfaces throughout the facility(s).   

  • Efforts are currently underway to prepare each facility for future implementations of required operational changes. 


Things our clients can do to assist our efforts in the provision of a safe space for their events:

  • Encourage your attendees to stay home if people feel sick with a respiratory illness.

  • Assist with the creation of signage to alert attendees of hand washing & cough/sneeze guidelines. 

  • Provide email links to CDC and Department of Health websites, as they all provide generous information surrounding Covid-19.
