Wunderbar! The kegs have been tapped at Snowbird’s 38th Annual Oktoberfest!

Raise your mas, stein, or simply your plastic cup, because Oktoberfest is here! Now until October 10, the free festivities will be taking place every Saturday and Sunday at Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort from noon to 6 p.m.

There are five Biergartens located throughout the Plaza Deck, Der Marktplatz and Oktoberfest Halle. Each Biergarten features a variety of local brews and German imported beer. In keeping with tradition, there are the ever-popular refillable Oktoberfest 22 oz. glass or plastic mugs available. I’ve been keeping my refillable mugs for several years now, and have to say I simply love this year’s design. I even brought a mug from a previous Oktoberfest to refill, but once I saw the new design I couldn’t resist and bought a new one anyway. Prost!

For those of you who don’t drink, or simply want to do more than drink, I highly recommend trying the authentic Bavarian cuisine. They have everything you could possibly want including bratwurst, weisswurst, spatzle, sauerkraut and even German chocolate cake. The food is located in the Oktoberfest Halle, where you’ll find plenty of seating, tables, and live performances throughout the day. Performances include music from the Salzburger Echo, Polkatronics and Europa.

If you’d prefer the more serene music experience, try taking the Tram up to the top of Hidden Peak and have a front row seat for the 3:30 p.m. Alphorn performance. It’s almost magical to hear them echo off the surrounding mountain peaks. It makes you feel as if you’re sitting atop the Zugspitze in your Lederhosen or Dirndl.
