It's that time of year again - time to pull the skis or board and make sure they're tuned and waxed, figure out where those goggles went during the summer months, and make your game plan for where to ski - Alta, Brighton, Snowbird, and Solitude are all close to Salt Lake and have incredible slopes. Hopefully it will be a big snow year, and we'll all see some great skiing.

So when are the resorts opening, how's the parking situation, and what can you expect at each resort? Check it out below.

Alta Ski Resort:

Come for the Skiing. Stay for the Skiing.

Open since 1938, Alta is one of the oldest ski areas in the country, attracting skiers of all abilities to experience its incredible snow — averaging over 540 inches per season. Devoted skiers return year after year, generation upon generation. While known for its steep and challenging terrain, one of the area’s best kept secrets is the easily accessible beginner area in the Albion Basin. One of the only ski areas in the country that doesn't allow snowboarding, Alta is a skiers-only mountain you must ski to believe. Off the slopes, the lodging community creates a warm, family-friendly welcome with over a 70% return guest rate and large, communal spaces. Full skier breakfasts and dinners are included in the lodging packages. There are also private homes, chalets, and condos to choose from.

Anticipated Opening Date:

Brighton Resort:

Chilled Out Snowboarding and Skiing

Brighton is arguably Salt Lake’s most laid-back ski resort. Unpretentious and friendly, its sprawling runs attract a young crowd, many of which are snowboarders. Brighton has the well-deserved distinction of being the resort where most Salt Lakers learn to ride and ski. Why? A combination of lower lift ticket prices, free skiing for kids ages 6 and under, an appealing mix of beginner and expert terrain, wide forgiving runs, and a mellow attitude. A couple more bonuses: Brighton hosts night skiing with more than 200 acres of lighted runs and shares a boundary with Solitude, so you can ski two resorts in one day.

Anticipated Opening Date:

November 11, 2022

Parking:

  • Parking will be limited so arrive early.  Reservations are not required and parking is still free. Reserved parking is available for a fee.

Snowbird:

Adventure. Architecture. Après.

Snowbird is a sprawling resort served by an impressive array of high-speed chairs and Utah’s only Aerial Tram, which this year features new Tram cabins with floor-to-ceiling windows. The terrain is a playground for those who like it fast, steep, and deep. The Tram drops you off atop Hidden Peak at 11,000 feet above sea level. Below a jaw-dropping panorama of high alpine wonder spreads out. To the left is Mineral Basin, a wide-open mix of blue runs and ultra-accessible black terrain. To the right, Gad Valley is topped with the iconic cirque that rolls out beneath the jagged peaks of the American Fork Twins. And finally, Peruvian Gulch descends, accessed by Peruvian Express and Mineral Basin via North America’s only ski tunnel, which doubles as a history museum of local mining artifacts along the 600-foot journey. After a day cutting through powder, you’ll have your choice of restaurants, lodging, and can even indulge at a spa at this modern, luxe resort.

Anticipated Opening Date:

November 18, 2022

Parking:

  • To ensure a spot, reserve your parking online.  Free parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis at certain lots. A preferred parking pass is also available.
