The Perfect Family History Trip to Salt Lake

Wednesday February 2, 2011
Salt Lake is hub of activity for folks researching their family history.  It’s the home of the world renowned Family History Library containing over 2.4 million rolls of microfilmed genealogical records, not to mention 727,000 microfiche; 356,000 books, serials, and other formats; over 4,500 periodicals and 3,725 electronic resources.

February 2011 offers a wonderful opportunity to make the trip to Salt Lake and combine it two upcoming Genealogy events: the RootsTech Conference in Salt Lake and the Family History Expo in St. George.

The first ever RootsTech Conference is being held February 10-12, 2011 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake. From the Community Zone and participant-driven unconferencing discussions to the RootsTech Playground, this conference is going to be ground-breaking and unique. There will be sessions of interest to novice, intermediate, and advanced users of technology. Read my earlier blog on the RootsTech conference here, and get registration details here.

The annual Family History Expo is being held February 15, 2011 at the Dixie Center in St. George, UT, just over 300 miles south of Salt Lake on I-15.  Respected genealogist Holly Hansen is at the Family History Expo helm, and she packs the 2 day event with fascinating and educational classes, an inspiring keynote speaker, and an exhibit hall bursting at the seams with the latest genealogical gadgets and services. Get registration details here.

What could be better than multiple days of education and inspiration, combined with a beautiful drive through Utah's scenic landscapse, and a visit to the Family History Library in Salt Lake?  Make your plans today!
