Sunday Market: Power to the People
Saturdays, I can't always make it to the Farmers Market at Pioneer Park. So when I heard about a the People's Market on Sunday morning, I was excited to check it out. And now, I'm totally hooked. Located right in front of the International Peace Gardens, the People's Market is mellow, friendly, diverse, and full of both tasty produce and interesting stories.
As I listened to live music from around the world, I picked up some veggies for the next few meals - a bag full of fresh basil, four potatoes, a bunch of tomatoes, a squash, and almost a pound of green beans: in all, enough for a few meals, all for less than $7.00.
Talking with one of the market's organizers, I learned that both commercial farmers and local gardeners are able to set up booths for very reasonable prices ($15, or $5 for a table share). In addition, there are artisans and even youth entrepreneurs. The market seemed incredibly friendly and community-minded.
