Salt Lake City is never one to rest on its laurels when it comes to food and drink, and the last three months have been no exception. If it’s been a while since you’ve checked out the latest and greatest changes to our foodie scene, we’ve got just what you need - a recap of some of the very best new openings in town.
Sunday's Best
If you thought brunch was just for the weekend, think again. Over in Sandy, this youthful and energetic restaurant offers brunch seven days a week. That means you can celebrate mimosa Mondays, waffle Wednesdays, or just about any other celebration you can dream up. Sunday’s Best makes that easy of course, offering as it does an extensive list of champagne by the glass or bottle. Over on the food side of the operation, a well-appointed menu comes with a mix of the classic and the modern. Beignets, benedicts, bubbles, what more do you need to start your day?

Tandoori Taqueria
Indian and Mexican cuisine share more than just ingredients and technique. Both can point to culinary traditions that span centuries of refinement, love affairs of flavor-fueled heat and luxuriously layered dishes. Which is where Tandoori Taqueria comes in, a Southern Utah import that wants to showcase how these two nations’ cuisines can shine together. Stop by this South Salt Lake taco spot and enjoy the marriage of flavors with taco such as the Bengali-style cauliflower or the beef and chorizo. For the wide-eyed and indecisive, look no further than Tandoori Taqueria’s taco combo which affords a little taste of everything.

Kahve Cafe
This Turkish coffee shop tucked into the heart of Salt Lake City is as cute as can be. The cafe is a perfect meeting spot for that midafternoon pick me up, light breakfast, or just a simple grab and go treat. The menu is always evolving with a seasonal twist and is neatly balanced with both savory and sweet selections. Try stuffed borek pastry with halal lamb or Bulgarian feta, or indulge your sweet tooth with a bite of black tea cake or Turkish fig cake. For those with time to linger, and looking to enjoy the Turkish delicacies longer, Kahve offer a range of teas, coffee, and spices to go.

A veritable melting pot of flavor and culinary styles. On an eclectically giddy menu you will find Korean, Japanese, Hawaiian and more. Kimchi loaded burritos sit happily alongside deep-fried Japanese pork at this mom-and-pop spot. Located in the heart of the buzzy Chinatown in South Salt Lake, you’ll probably want to come hungry and with some spare time on your hands. Why? Well, San Fran is just one bright star in a constellation of many dazzling businesses here. A trip for a quick snack can easily turn into an afternoon of tasting and shopping.

The Local Greek
If you know SLC, you’ll also know we have a vibrant Greek community. From downtown SLC’s huge Greek festival (this year pencil September 10th, 11th, 12th into your diary) to a diverse range of Greek restaurants, fine dining through fast casual. The Local Greek is one such eatery, and notably, recently moved from their original Riverton digs to a bright, modern location in Taylorsville. On the menu you can enjoy hearty classics such as gyro and souvlaki, but also find more unusual preparations such as fire grilled lamb chops or bougatsa - a Cretan style cheese pie crowned with sugar and cinnamon.

Oromian Restaurant
If you’ve yet to try your hand at Ethiopian cuisine, this recently opened restaurant along State Street will guide you through the paces. Indeed, this North African cuisine is all about dexterous dining. Meals are centered around the nation’s iconic creation - injera - a fermented flatbread made from teff flour. The bread functions as both flatware and food. Tear a piece off and scoop away. The best way to enjoy this style of dining is with like-minded friends and one of the restaurant’s bountiful combo options. Oromian offers hearty platters than can serve up to four, with plenty of vegetarian options too.

Morty’s Cafe
These days it seems like even the humble hamburger has been priced into the stratosphere. That’s not the case at this classic American cafe, which recently opened its third location in the heart of SLC’s upcoming Central 9th district. An iconic slice of Summer BBQing is just $6.50 at Morty’s. No that’s not a misprint. You’ll also find sandwiches, salads, and all-day breakfast options - most of which will leave you smiling - and change from ten bucks too.

Ascoli Espresso
Located in the heart of downtown SLC is this brand-new coffee shop - and they want to make sure you start your day the right way, which is to say with a perfectly brewed coffee and breakfast bite. Flat white, affogato, cortado - your favorite brew is here - and then some. Croissants and crepes are the staples of the food side of the business. Need further convincing? Ascoli’s owner hails from Seattle, we hear those guys know a thing or two about brewing a great cup of Joe...
