Salt Lake 200

Part II of an ongoing series...

thebayou-4-of-5This past Tuesday, it was *cold* here in SLC - winter has made an appearance. As the snow continued to fall, it was a perfect evening to share a seasonal brew and hot meal with a friend.

The Bayou, located at 645 S State St - offers this and more.  Since SLC's recent change in liquor laws, you no longer need a membership to enter this popular bar.  The Bayou's slogan is "Wecome to Beervana," and they aren't kidding.  There are 250 beers to choose from, both domestic microbrews and favorites from overseas. Those who poke fun at Utah beer regulations need to check this place out.

I'm a big fan of spicy, pumpkin beers, and our server recommended that we actually mix two local beers (Uinta/Four+'s Punk'n and Wasatch's Pumpkin Ale).  We did, and it was delicious.  The Bayou's butternut squash soup was also heavenly.

In addition to a ridiculously extensive beer list and ample appetizer and entree choices, the Bayou offers a place to socialize and spend an evening, with pool tables in the back, live jazz bands in the front (usually Thursday through Sunday), and lots of bar and table seating.

In the warmer months, there's an open air patio, and when it's snowy, the Bayou manages to be welcoming and cozy despite its size.  There's also a new music venue, The State Room, conveniently located across the street - we ran into a friend grabbing a drink at the Bayou before heading out to a show.

Total cost of this evening out, for two people: $36.96  .

Remaining fun balance: $139.47
