On Broadway, Part VI: Sage's Cafe
My roommate and I went to Sage's Cafe for lunch the other day - from our house, it's a short and pleasant downhill bike ride, and as always, I wondered why I don't eat there more often. I got the special - a TLT (bacon being replaced with tempe), and she ordered a salad. Sage's has a homey feel to it, and we ate in the sunlit room overlooking Broadway.
I am a confirmed fan of bacon, and yet, I can say that the tempe LT (with fresh heirloom tomatoes, on a baguette) was quite possibly better than ANY bacon-based sandwich I've ever had. It, along with the cup of eggplant soup, was hands-down the best meal I've enjoyed in a long time. Bursting with delicious flavors, filling, satisfying: Sage's is not a quick lunch place, but when you get your meal, it is worth the wait.
Our server talked about Sage's chefs, who prepare not only all-vegetarian, but all-vegan, meals, using mainly organic, local ingredients. On Tuesday nights, Sage's has all-you-can-eat pizza and salad special. Mmmm. It may be little, it may have an unassuming front, but Sage's is an award-winning SLC gem.
