Music in SLC: We've Got it Good

vieuxfarkatoureslc-11-of-21When I found myself front and center at last weekend's Vieux Farka Toure show, it hit me that this is one of those moments that makes Salt Lake such a great place to live.

Vieux Farka Toure, a musician from Mali (son of the late Ali Farka Toure, one of Mali's best-loved, most well-known musicians), plays an amazing show with his band.  When I first saw them two summers ago, in Boston, I stood in the stand-by line for half an hour to get one of the last tickets.

When Vieux played the Utah Arts Festival in SLC this past Sunday, I had the chance to see an incredible musical performance for $7, outside in the warm summer night, with no waiting and no crazy crowds (though lots of dancing, which was awesome to see).

From the Gallivan to Red Butte, and beyond, Salt Lake seems to bring in a LOT of great music, actually, and the best part is that it's so accessible.
