MacCool's Public House
Traditional Irish cuisine, sandwiches, comfort food, and great beer. All found in a cozy atmosphere at MacCool's Public House. It has the feel of a neighborhood bar, but inviting enough for a family meal or a great date night. It's also a great spot to warm up on a cold day with a favorite of mine, corned beef and cabbage.
I first visited MacCool's in the summer of 2009. I've since gone back and tried most of the items on the menu. I have found it to be a consistent, delicious, and comforting place each visit. As mentioned, I love their corned beef and cabbage, and they serve great fish and chips. You can get a great steak, fine seafood, Guinness stew, and it's one of the only places I've ever enjoyed sheppard's pie. They really know how to handle lamb, with a delicious lamb shank, lamb burger, or a great lamb sandwich with sliced lamb roast. Of course, no Irish menu would be complete without bangers and mash, which is on the appetizer menu, but is a meal in itself.
New to the menu, they've added several varieties of boxty. Boxty is a traditional Irish potato pancake wrapped around meats and/or vegetables. The Hunter's boxty is served with fillings of buffalo, venison, and sausage, along with sauteed mushrooms, and a rich delicious gravy. At $8.99 it's a steal for such a filling dish.
MacCool's works hard to keep it's ingredients local and fresh. They carry beers from Bohemian Brewery, Squatters, and Epic Brewing, and have recently added new desserts made by Les Madeleines. They are committed to being a part of our community, and serving the best food and drinks.
There are three locations, Salt Lake, South Jordan, and Layton. They're open 11am-11pm Monday through Saturday, and 11am-9pm Sunday.
