Little America's Green Effort

Little America hotel in Downtown Salt Lake CityBack in 1934 when the original Little America opened it's doors thinking "green" was likely more closely associated with increasing the bottom line than it was with environmental concerns.

Anymore hotels in Salt Lake need to and are taking steps to become more green. It's my opinion that along with being responsible partners with the environment comes an increase to the bottom line.

Little America's green initiatives is a great start for a local hotel headed in the right direction and a good example for other Salt Lake hotels to follow. Even it's bigger and newer sister hotel next door (Grand America) is working to implement the same initiatives.

Some of these include::

  • The Grand and Little America Hotels recycled 131 tons of material by-product in 2006 and 150 tons in 2007. The goal is to increase recyclable waste an additional 15% or 172 tons for 2008.

  • All Public area restrooms are equipped with sensor faucets and toilets minimizing water flow.

  • Energy efficient lighting system on entire 9 acre property.

  • Cleaning supplies are purchased from Eco-Logic Solutions. Supplies are bio-degradable and reduce the environmental imprint that standard chemicals produce.

So when you stay at the Little America or it's more luxury neighbor Grand America you will know that you're at a place that values the environment enough to take steps that help the community and the planet.
