My husband and I celebrated our 9th Wedding Anniversary earlier this week. We decided to go back to our roots. We lived in downtown SLC when we were first married. So, I rode the train from the suburbs where we live now and met my hubby downtown after work.

Together we walked through the streets of downtown and ate at one of our favorite places, Settebello. You just can’t beat Italian Style Pizza, right?

After, we walked over to our old apartment and reminisced about how fun it was living there.Salt Lake City Green Bike share

We climbed up the fire escape to enjoy the view. I’m so lucky to be married to such a pleasant person who has been my best friend for 9 years. He’s never yelled or even argued with me. He’s impossible to fight with because he just WON’T fight. Since I hate conflict, we’re a perfect match.

Our date night was already fun, but took a turn for the hilariously-fun when we passed by a SLC Bike Share stop. We weren’t planning to ride bikes, but since they were there and since its so easy and inexpensive, we decided to go for it. The cost to ride a bike for 24 hours is $5. Seriously.

2013-08-13 19.33.51So, we swiped our credit card and got ourselves a couple of bikes. Thankfully the bikes are highly adjustable and on their next to smallest setting, they were able to accommodate our small Sokol-sized bodies.

The bikes are very easy to ride, they have three gears so if you’re going up a little hill you can gear down.

The only thing I’d really mention here as a caution is that the bikes have big baskets on the front and have unusually large handlebars. And, because of this they are VERY front heavy.Things to do in Salt Lake city

It took me a few minutes to get used to the weight of the bike. I’m used to riding a much lighter weight bike so it took a minute.

I can’t tell you how much fun we had riding these bikes. I felt so young and easy-going. We didn’t have helmets which I know is VERY dangerous (no need to send me hate mail on what a wreckless person I am), but…it was also kind of awesome to feel the wind in my hair.

I switched on the Pandora app and tossed my phone in the basket up front. We let Jack Johnson sing to us as we happy-go-lucky rode through the streets and sidewalks of Downtown Salt Lake. I felt just like Zooey Deschanel.

I’ve lived in Utah pretty much my whole life and am no stranger to downtown, but I was surprised at how much MORE I was able to see on a bike. I’m normally either driving which is too fast to take in all the sights or walking which is too slow and limits what you can see.

I saw so many more charming Victorian mansions than I ever noticed before. There are also SO many more historic churches than I ever noticed. Everyone should take a bike tour of downtown. It really is such a charming area to tour. Salt Lake City has some really nice things to see.

One of the highlights was riding past the Governor’s Mansion. I’ve been past in a car, but you can’t see all the charming detail when you whiz by at 40 mph.

We had one of the funnest dates we’ve ever had riding all over town. I highly recommend this and absolutely ANYONE could do this. After I got home, I liked SLC Bike Share on Facebook.
