Formosa with the Family

familycropIt's the year of the ox for a few more weeks. My placemat at Formosa Grill on 2100 S told me so. And that I was born in the year of the boar. Which makes me noble and chivalrous (naturally) and tells me my friends will be lifelong. And that I should marry a
Rabbit or a Sheep. Phew, that helps simplify things.

We go to Formosa every year for my Dad's birthday. He likes the private Tatami rooms, where you leave your shoes outside and sit around a table with the entire family, closing the sliding doors behind you.

platecropSpecializing in Szechuan and Mandarin cuisine, you can get a bowl of egg drop soup to start for $1.75, followed by an array of delicious entrées served family style to share. We always get the beef with snow peas, vegetable tempura, sweet and sour pork, lemon shrimp, and my favorite- the sesame chicken, all accompanied by ham fried rice.

frontcropMy youngest brother Corbin practiced his first-year Chinese with the server as he brought us fortune cookies for dessert. And we all checked out the indoor fish pond on our way out. With their welcoming staff, personal atmosphere and delicious food, it's no wonder it's become a family tradition. Don't forget to ask for chopsticks!
