Elizabeth's Bakery and Tea Shop
Elizabeth's is one of my favorite spots, where I can eat a full meal, stop for a quick snack, or just lounge casually with a pot of tea while nibbling on some sweets. No matter what mood I am in, there is something for everyone and every occasion. For breakfast or lunch, quiches, meat pies, and other savory creations. Great biscuits, cakes, chocolates, and other sweets for dessert. Scones, crumpets, tarts, and so much more in small servings perfect for snack time with tea or coffee. It is like my cure-all choice when I have no idea what I want.
The simplicity of English bakery cuisine means you shouldn't be too confused by the items. A beef and onion pie is just what it sounds like, as is a sausage roll (sausage, rolled in a pastry). You should be familiar with quiche, Elizabeth's makes a different selection each morning with fresh ingredients. A pasty is a pastry shell filled with meats or vegetables, like the curried vegetable pasty filled with potatoes, carrots, peas, and onions in a mild curry. Sarny is a slang word for sandwich. Even though some of the language seems foreign, it really is not scary to make your selection. Most of the savory options like meat pies, pasties, and sausage rolls are served with a small salad, making them a delicious and affordable meal.
An English scone is not fry-bread, but more similar to what Americans know as biscuits. They're served with butter, jellies, or fresh lemon curd, and an essential snack whenever you visit Elizabeth's. A crumpet is a bit more savory, soft, and slightly spongy. Tarts are a small open-faced shortbread pie filled with lemon curd or other jam-like fruit fillings. The sweets case is pretty easy to navigate, and each selection tastes as good as it looks.
Elizabeth's now offers table service, so go in and take a look at the selection in the glass cases. Grab a tea menu, and settle into a comfortable seat. A server will come by and take your order, so you can keep your ticket open and grab additional snacks and drinks as needed.
Don't forget to stop by London Market next door to find many great products from the U.K. A great selection of drinks, candies, snacks, gifts, and so much more. Pick up a unique gift for someone, or just a great treat for yourself.
