Dining at The Metropolitan

Monday February 28, 2011
Salt Lake's culinary scene is blooming with al sorts of new options, but as it does the ones that have been around seem to be challenging themselves with new creations without losing the dishes that put them on the map. The Metropolitan is one of those enduring establishments.

The Metropolitan is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Salt Lake on Broadway.  Visitors may walk from their downtown hotel, and locals may hop over after work for a cocktail or early dinner.

One of the locals' favorite menu items is the Metropolitan Mushrooms, stacked high in a truffle potato puree, perfectly crisp to hold its shape, then drizzled with a robust wine sauce. They certainly lived up to the hype for me.

To keep in step with the nationwide food trends and the newer local establishments, The Metropolitan adapted their menu to support many local food producers.  They incorporate Beehive Cheese, Rimini Coffee, Shepherds Farm, Niman Ranch, and Snake River Farms products in their seasonally fresh menu.

The Metropolitan also has a Wine and Spirits class every Saturday through April as well as a Local's Night on Mondays, when they offer 3 courses for $30. They also participate in the Downtown Dine O'Round event every year, which is always a good chance to try Salt Lake's more expensive restaurants as they offer special deals and discounts.
