Days of '47

days_of_47-logoMention the "Days of '47" anywhere around Salt Lake and you're sure to get responses like the parade, fireworks, running race and the rodeo. But did you know that the Days of '47 have 12 different events that are directly associated with it not to mention another half dozen events that are also in the month of July? If you're looking for things to do during July you're not confined just to the 24th of July.  The celebration begins earlier than that.

Family fun events like the Family Fun Day on July 10 which each year takes place at This is The Place Heritage Park is a great way to kick things off. Last year 17,000 people attended this event.

Parades? Yes, there are more than one. The Youth Parade and Youth Festival take place on July 18 at 600 East and 500 South. Check the official Days' of 47 website for specific details on this event. Days of 47 painting

Similarly on the 18th of July is the First Encampment Hike which takes the route from Donner Park (near the Zoo) and goes to the first location the pioneers camped in the valley. The hike is 5 miles long and is a great way to get some exercise and to walk in the path of the pioneers.

Another fun event is the Float Preview Party at the South Towne Expo Center in Sandy taking place July 20 & 21. Kicking off at the same time is the Days of '47 Rodeo at the E Center in West Valley City. Going for 5 days, this is the largest Rodeo in Utah and one of the biggest in the west. Tickets are still available.

Of course on the 24th of July we've got the Sunrise Service at Temple Square, the Deseret News Marathon/10K/Fitness walk followed by the Parade.

Bottom line is don't wait until the 24th to get into the spirit of the Days of '47, you get start now.
