Cowboy Ramble at The Woodshed
How about one that centers around music, held at a cool bar with a great set-up and an outdoor patio? Look no further than Band of Annuals' Cowboy Ramble at the Woodshed.
Since returning to SLC this January, I've heard the Woodshed's name come up a number of times, always in a positive light. I first made my way there for a Salt Lake Green Drinks event a couple months ago, and it was then that I learned about the BOA-sponsored Cowboy Ramble.
Held every first and third Thursday of the month, this new (as of February) SLC tradition immediately got my attention. I heard a fairly vague description (something about old-school country music, put on by Band of Annuals and other musicians, dancing), but that was enough to know I needed to check it out.
So, the first Thursday of this month, I finally made my way there with some friends and neighbors, and was not disappointed. First of all, I love the venue. The Woodshed seems to be the type of bar I'm always on the lookout for in SLC, the one that reminds me a little of neighborhood pubs/smaller dive bar music venues in Boston.
On this Thursday, when we arrived, the place was just the right amount of full, and the music was underway. I might be getting this wrong, but how I had it explained to me was that Band of Annuals (from SLC itself) got this regular gig going at the Woodshed and invites friends and other bands from near and far to join them. There was definitely a country vibe going on, though not all the covers were of that genre. The visiting band that evening was Leslie and the Badgers, from LA.
There wasn't as much dancing as I'd expected, but I have high hopes for future rambles. I liked the fun, laid-back energy, the great music, the tall beers, and the fact that all this could go outdoors come summer - the patio wasn't open yet, but it looks promising.
