Brighton Makes Family Skiing Easy as 1, 2, 3

Wednesday December 21, 2011
Brighton Ski Resort, located in Big Cottonwood Canyon, is widely considered a "locals resort." It doesn't boast plush ski-in/ski-out accommodations or world-renowned restaurants, but those aren't the most important elements of a family ski vacation, right? Skiing with the whole family can be a challenge. Let me rephrase—if not properly executed, it can actually become a nightmare. When it comes to ease of overall ski experience and value for your money, Brighton leads the way.
Brighton Ski Resort

Brighton Resort's convenient setup more than makes up for its lack of overnight accommodations. Unlike some other ski resorts, you can literally park, swap your Sorels for ski boots, and walk to the Brighton Center in a few minutes. Do you have little ones in tow? Drop them off at Brighton's state licensed childcare facility while you hit the slopes. Brighton Daycare accepts walk-ins, but highly recommends reservations, especially during holiday weeks.

The next stop on your family ski journey is the Rental Shop, located on the 2nd level of the Brighton Center. Ski rentals can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour depending on the shop's customer volume. Keep this in mind when planning your daily schedule. Otherwise, the rental process is a breeze. Once your family has acquired your loaner skis, boots, and poles, make your way up to the third level, out the main doors, and across the snow pathway to Ski School.

Brighton's Sliding Academy offers everything from parent/child private lessons, 3-year-old group lessons, Little Rippers (ages 4-7), Children (8-12), Adults (13 and up), Private Lessons, multi-day and multi-week packages. Brighton's Ski School is full of veterans, many have been at Brighton for 15+ years, and many instructors are PSIA (The Professional Ski Instructors of America) certified. More importantly, it's obvious that they really love their job, and this key characteristic translates into successful ski and snowboard lessons every day. No one is too young or too old to learn to love skiing. If you've been put off by lessons in the past, give it another try!

Brighton is currently promoting a great learn to ride package. Adults who book a 3-Day Learn-to-Ski or Snowboard package will receive a free Smith helmet. Package includes: 3 group lessons, 3 full-day rentals, 3 learner lift tickets, and a free Smith helmet, all for $199.

Bottom line: Brighton offers high quality daycare, ski and snowboard lessons, along with amazing beginning-intermediate terrain, all at a very reasonable price. Brighton is the perfect place for your kids (and you!) to learn and advance your skiing and snowboarding skills.
