A Documentary: The Alta Experience

I was up at Alta yesterday where it was as one friend said "D*$& Good", even despite the infrequent storms the past 2 weeks. (of course it snowed last night).

While there I heard about the Alta Experience, a documentary showing on KUED 7 (Salt Lake public TV channel) tonight at 7pm.

I went over to the KUED website and found that they've got a really cool interactive trail map that you can click on icons to watch different types of clips from the documentary. Surely worth checking out for the mere exercise of killing some time on the mid-week hump day.

Of the documentary the producer had this to say:
“In making the documentary, I was struck by the way this random spot 12 miles up Little Cottonwood Canyon could be a place where folks from all over the U.S. would converge, build friendships and experience incredible terrain, resulting in vivid memories that are at once very personal but also communal,” said KUED producer Joe Prokop. “It was my goal to bring to life for avid skiers and armchair Alpinists alike the small-town atmosphere that makes Alta a destination.”

Here's a video clip that if you've skied Alta you might relate to:

Thinking about this documentary took me back to that first day I had at Alta, which happened about 13 years ago while I was taking the winter off from school to work at the then Wolf Mountain in Park City. My buddy who worked at Deer Valley had to convince me to go over to Alta for the day saying that he'd treat me to a day at Alta.

Little did I know that I would come to love the place. (and no, I don't need convincing any longer) Like so many days at Alta, my first day was an ultra deep change your life kind of experience.

Have you ever felt this way about skiing Alta? When was your first Alta Experience day?
