September 2023 Roundup of New and Notable Restaurants

Salt Lake City is never one to rest on its laurels when it comes to food and drink, and the last three months have been no exception. If it’s been a while since you’ve checked out the latest and greatest changes to our foodie scene, we’ve got just what you need—a recap of some of the very best new openings in town for fall 2023. Bar Nohm The debut of this Central 9th hot spot is inarguably one of the most interesting on the Utah dining scene in 2023. After a Covid coerced closure of the much-loved Nohm, the newly minted partnership with neighboring Water Witch makes for a must visit. The talents of chef David Chon can still be found in the kitchen, where the custom-built binchotan charcoal grill still powers the smokey engine of the restaurant. Joining Chon’s kitchen chops are the undeniable talents of some of Utah’s best mixologists. The fusion is more than metaphorical too—a new inside door allows patrons to now wander freely between both the ‘Witch and Bar Nohm. At its heart Bar Nohm (a 21+ only bar) is modeled after a Japanese izakaya, a place to plop down, share a few plates, a few drinks, and a few tales from the day. The menu is built with this in mind, smaller preparations with lively and eclectic flavors. …

June 2023 Roundup of New and Notable Restaurants

Salt Lake City is never one to rest on its laurels when it comes to food and drink, and the last three months have been no exception. If it’s been a while since you’ve checked out the latest and greatest changes to our foodie scene, we’ve got just what you need—a recap of some of the very best new openings in town. Manoli's I’m starting this month’s roundup with not a new restaurant per se, but a welcome back to one of the most loved names on the Salt Lake City dining scene. After a five-month enforced hiatus, the fine dining Greek cuisine of Manoli’s is now open for business once more. The story behind the reboot started in late 2022, the owners receiving terrible news the night before a fully booked New Year’s Eve service. A freak water line break had flooded the restaurant, rendering it unusable. Months of restorative work unfurled. The restaurant is now back in business with eager locals filling up the reservation book in support. Of course, it’s more than goodwill that drives the staunchly loyal following. The relaunched menu remains true to what followed before—a core of Greek meze—small shareable dishes, presented in an elegant and modern space. The restaurant now sports a deep inventory of Greek wine, that’s completely unique in the state. 402 East Harvey Milk Boulevard #2, Salt Lake City, UT 84111 (801) 532-3760 manolison9th.com…

Urban Hill The recent opening of this destination dining spot raises the bar once for fine dining in SLC. The restaurant anchors the quickly growing Post District on the city’s South West edge, and chef Nick Zocco’s resume is as impressive as the build out. His backstory includes everything from the mega kitchen of SW Steakhouse in Vegas through to the boutique charm’s of Park City’s Tupelo. Zocco pairs that breadth of experience with his Southwestern roots to produce a sublime menu. Carrots with New Mexico chile sauce, striped bass with ember roasted yuca, bison ribeye with mole negro—just a few of the canny nods to his past. It’d be remiss not to mention the space too, a sprawling dining room is made intimate through chic and savvy design touches; take a seat at the crudo counter, or maybe one of the plush sofas overlooking the exhibition kitchen. Expect Urban Hill to be one of the hottest tickets for 2023. 510 South 300 West, Suite 100, Salt Lake City, UT 84101 (385) 295-4200 urban-hill.com  …

December 2022 Roundup of New and Notable Restaurants

Salt Lake City is never one to rest on its laurels when it comes to food and drink, and the last three months have been no exception. If it’s been a while since you’ve checked out the latest and greatest changes to our foodie scene, we’ve got just what you need - a recap of some  of the very best new openings in town. Mar | Muntanya  We’d be remiss not to start with this jewel in the glittering crown of the barely opened Hyatt Regency hotel—located right next door to our main offices in SLC. Mar | Muntanya can be found on the sixth floor of the newly minted convention center hotel and the name tells you all you need to know about the menu, translating as “Ocean | Mountain." Overseeing proceedings, chef Ryan Peterson is a returning Utahn and brings with him a wealth of Spanish cooking experience from prior postings around the country. Peterson’s interpretation of the sea and mountain moniker means Northern Spanish cuisine featuring classic dishes such as seafood-strewn paella and fresh oysters topped with beef tartare; as well as more unique Mountain West inflected concoctions like roasted elk tenderloin with Iberico bacon and blackberry jus. The cocktail menu at Mar | Muntanya is also worthy of exploration, headlined by a focus on gin and tonics—as well as a variety of sangria preparations. It’s worth mentioning the dazzling new Hyatt also features a ground floor restaurant (Salt Republic) with plenty of Utah-influenced surprises, as well as a lively cocktail bar (Contribution) on the South East corner of the building, a perfect people watching spot in the heart of the city. 170 S. West Temple Street Salt Lake City, UT 84101 mar-muntanya.com…
