Salt Lake City International Airport Now Largest Hub in the West

Published: 11/30/2006

The Salt Lake City Department of Airports recently announced the 15 airlines serving the airport now provide non-stop service to 106 destinations from Salt Lake, making the Salt Lake City International Airport the largest airline hub in the western United States.

Delta Air Lines, the nation’s third largest airline, now flies to more cities from SLC than any other airline serving any other airport in the west, and serves all of Salt Lake’s top 50 markets with non-stop flights. Salt Lake is the airline’s second largest hub next to Atlanta. In addition to Delta Air Lines, Salt Lake City International Airport is served by American, Continental, Continental Express, Expressjet, Frontier, JetBlue, Northwest, Pinnacle, SkyWest, Southwest, United Airlines, United Express, US Airways and US Airways Express.

“This announcement further illustrates Salt Lake’s accessibility and convenience for all travelers, from all destinations,” commented Scott Beck, president & CEO of the Salt Lake Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Whether people are coming to Salt Lake for business or leisure, they’re able to spend more time on the ground and less time worrying about getting here. It’s ideal for meeting planners, whose job includes insuring convention attendees can easily arrive and depart, as well as vacationers, particularly skiers and snowboarders who are just 40 minutes from our four world-class resorts upon touching down.”

The Salt Lake Convention & Visitors Bureau is a private, non-profit corporation responsible for the promotion of Salt Lake as a convention and travel destination. Salt Lake is a unique fusion of metropolitan city and quaint mountain town; the towering Wasatch Mountains that embrace Salt Lake offer a dramatic backdrop to the vibrancy and activities of downtown. Having recently undergone a $58 million expansion, the Salt Palace Convention Center now boasts 679,000 square feet of exhibit and meeting space, ideal for groups of all sizes and needs.
