21 million passengers in 2010 makes S.L. airport 25th busiest in nation

Published: 02/07/2011

SALT LAKE CITY - Salt Lake City International Airport served more than 21 million passengers in 2010, making it the 25th busiest airport in the nation.

Nearly 600,000 more passengers arrived or departed from the airport in 2010 than in 2009, marking the first time since 2007 that the airport has served more passengers than the previous year. The airport served 22 million people in 2007, 20.7 million in 2008 and 20.4 million in 2009.

"It indicates a more healthy economic environment than we have experienced the past few years, and we are very pleased to see the traffic returning," said Maureen Riley, the airport's executive director.

The airport also saw a significant jump in international passengers in 2010 from the previous year, totaling 523,106 in 2010 compared with 91,802 in '09.

Cargo traffic also increased by more than 20.6 million pounds in 2010 from 2009.

Overall, there were 362,654 takeoffs and landings at Salt Lake City International Airport in 2010, including commercial, general aviation and military air traffic.
