SCVNGR is a national location-based social media game and playing is simple, utilizing either an iPhone or Android smartphone. Players simply download the applicable free app (iPhone or Android), then go to the trek locations and do the challenges listed, from which points are earned, accumulated and used for rewards. SCVNGR is played casually, with quick, easy challenges players complete at their own pace. Challenges can include checking in at a specific location, snapping a photo or answering a trivia question; challenges vary throughout each trek and only take a few seconds to complete. To kick off its Salt Lake SCVNGR treks, VSL is holding a summer-long competition June 1-August 31 where players can compete to win instant rewards and one of three grand prizes by completing treks and earning points. Players completing one of VSL's five SCVNGR treks will earn an instant reward, which can redeemed for a free t-shirt or hat from the Simply Salt Lake gift shop located in the Salt Palace Convention Center ($20 value). Through August 31, the top three VSL SCVNGR players earning the most points by completing treks will each be awarded a grand prize of two (2) 365-day Visit Salt Lake Connect Passes ($138 value).
