- A Visit Salt Lake Connect Pass Attraction -
Salt Lake City (May 2009)-Tracy Aviary, located in the heart of Liberty Park, occupies eight acres of land area and contains approximately 400 birds representing about 135 species. It is also one of more than a dozen attractions offered on the Visit Salt Lake Connect Pass.
Open to the public since 1938, Tracy Aviary was originally founded by Salt Lake City banker Russell Lord Tracy when he donated his private bird collection to Salt Lake City. Currently, Tracy Aviary is in the process of becoming the "Aviary of the Americas." Following the theme of migration, it plans to trace the migratory path of birds from the southern tip of Argentina to Alaska and back, all while highlighting the importance Utah plays in that journey. In 1990, Tracy Aviary was accredited by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA).
Tracy Aviary is committed to providing educational programs and opportunities for children. Weeklong Avian Adventure Summer Camps are offered all summer and provide numerous opportunities for up-close interaction with many varieties of birds as well as bird trainers. These camps engage and entertain children through crafts, projects, experiments and explorations.
The Aviary is open from 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. during the summer (April 10-October 19) and from 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in the winter (October 20-April 9). It is open every day of the year except for Christmas Day.
