In the past, college athletics has divided the state the Utah. With the University of Utah's new conference affiliation in the Pac-12, it's time to unite Salt Lake City as we begin competing with some of the greatest cities and Universities in the western United States. We are now all red. It's Salt Lake City, Home of the Utes, versus Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Denver, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
Utah Athletics, the Downtown Alliance, the Mayor's Office, the Utah Sports Commission, EDCUtah, and Visit Salt Lake are joining forces to create The Red Movement. The Red Movement is designed to encourage community involvement from local businesses, fans, and families in a variety of different events. The Red Movement will create a stronger sense of community pride, a college town feel, and showcase Salt Lake City to our guests from the west.
Your go-to information source for all The Red Movement action can be found at TheRedMVMT.com. TheRedMVMT.com is also a mobile-friendly website, so be sure to use your smart phone when you are on the go. "We view our athletics department as an extension of the community and this new partnership with the downtown businesses should be an exciting one for both of us. College football games provide a unique entertainment opportunity for residents, visitors, University students and faculty, and we think the Red Movement will be fun for everyone." - Dr. Chris Hill, Director of Athletics, University of Utah
"The Pac-12 designation is important for our entire community, and we are doing everything we can to leverage this exposure to benefit our local economy. As an Olympic city, we came to understand the importance of being welcoming and hospitable, and we are looking forward to rolling out the Utah red carpet to visitors from other cities who attend Utah football games this year." - Lane Beattie, President and CEO, Salt Lake Chamber
"Downtown is thrilled to host thousands of sports fans from other Pac-12 teams as we work with community partners to create this great 48-hour game experience. We know the impact will be felt immediately in restaurants and hotels, but just as important is the long-term relationships we hope to make. We want to be known as the friendliest most welcoming city in the Pac-12 and we're grateful to all the community partners and downtown businesses who are working to create a great experience for locals and visiting fans." - Jason Mathis, Executive Director, Downtown Alliance

PAINT THE TOWN RED CONTEST:
The Paint The Town Red contest is designed for local businesses to participate in turning Downtown Salt Lake City into the "Home of the Utes". Every fall, during the Utah football season, downtown businesses are invited to join in the Paint the Town Red contest by decorating their business or storefront in Ute graphics and décor for the duration of the football season. Winners receive cash prizes, Ute merchandise and game tickets. This contest gives downtown businesses the opportunity to show support for the U and offers another great incentive for Ute fans to patronize their business in support of the U. The Paint the Town Red contest also gives downtown a fun college-town atmosphere and tells visitors that the University of Utah is Salt Lake City's ‘team.
