Ski Salt Lake Sponsors Steven Nyman
The Salt Lake Convention & Visitors Bureau recently announced its sponsorship agreement with U.S. Ski Team member and Utah native Steven Nyman, promoting the marketing organization’s Ski Salt Lake program. Shortly thereafter, Nyman placed third on the difficult Birds of Prey downhill course December 1 to notch his first-ever World Cup podium.
The 23-year old Nyman will compete on the season-long FIS World Cup circuit, primarily in Europe, bearing the Ski Salt Lake logo. Ski Salt Lake is a cooperative sales and marketing program promoting Salt Lake County’s four world-class resorts: Alta and Snowbird in Little Cottonwood Canyon, and Brighton and Solitude in Big Cottonwood Canyon, all of which are within 30 minutes of downtown Salt Lake.
“Since the 2002 Winter Olympics, Ski Salt Lake has been picking up momentum both nationally and internationally. Partnering with Steven is a great way to build name recognition in Europe,” commented Scott Beck, president and CEO of the Salt Lake CVB. “The fact that Steven’s a Utahn and a ‘Big Mountain’ type racer fits in perfectly with our four resorts, known throughout the industry as home to many of the world’s top big mountain skiers.”
“To compete on skiing’s biggest stage, the World Cup, is a dream come true,” added Nyman. “To do it while representing my home is a huge bonus. It will also keep me tied to my Utah roots and motivate me that much more knowing I’m representing my home-town resorts back in Salt Lake.”
