SALT LAKE CITY, September 10, 2020 - It is with great enthusiasm that the Salt Palace Convention Center (SPCC) & Mountain  America Exposition Center (MAEC) announce the approval of their Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC) STAR facility accreditation. In order to properly address and meet the needs of the continued prevention, response, and recovery of Covid-19, both facilities began to pursue the GBAC STAR facility accreditation program in April of this year. This accreditation from The Global Biorisk Advisory Council (the leading trade association for the cleaning industry) is another step towards providing a safe facility for all attendees and employees. This accreditation would not have been possible without the continued financial and organizational support from Visit Salt Lake, and their leadership in restarting the live events industry. It is clear that the hospitality community is invested in the future of both SPCC & MAEC as a means to continue to bring economic growth and opportunity to  the Wasatch Front. In order to achieve the GBAC STAR accreditation SPCC & MAEC demonstrated compliance with the program's 20 elements, ranging from standard operating procedures to emergency preparedness and response measures. This  accreditation coincides with the introduction of a new ASM Global program known as VenueShield. This new program provides both SPCC & MAEC with industry wide standards for providing clients, employees, and attendees with information and guidance that will bring us through these unprecedented times, and help bring both venues and the events industry as a whole back to life.  It is the belief that with the GBAC accreditation accomplished, both SPCC & MAEC are positioned as leaders in the post-Covid 19 events industry world, and will emerge as a safe harbor for all events in search of a new normal.
