By, Shad Engkilterra,Examiner.com -- The Downtown Farmers Market will open on June 8, 2013 with new extended hours from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Featuring local growers and local crafts, the Downtown Farmers Market is located at Pioneer Park (300 S 300 W) in Salt Lake City.
There are several benefits that the Market brings to the community including meeting the growers of the food, keeping money in the local economy and revitalization of the surrounding neighborhood.
“It’s an incubator in that neighborhood,” says Nick Como, communication director. “Money you spend in the local economy tends to stay in the local economy.”
The Downtown Farmers Market will kick off the season on June 4 at 5:30 p.m. with a fundraising event at Squatters Pub Brewery (147 W Broadway). Tickets are $40 and can be purchased here. Proceeds benefit the Downtown Farmers Market, which is a nonprofit organization. The event is scheduled to end at 8:30 p.m.
Vendors at the market include Cantu’s Culinary Creations, Beehive Cheese Company, RubySnap and Rico’s Brand/Frida Bistro. Local musicians are scheduled to play from noon until 2 p.m., and buskers can be seen throughout the Market.
The Downtown Farmers Market is scheduled to run through Oct. 19 with a Tuesday Market operating between Aug. 6 and Oct. 22.
