Salt Lake City, Utah, has lifted an antiquated law that for decades allowed only two bars per block downtown.

While Salt Lake City's nightlife scene has grown in recent years, the eased restrictions will reinvigorate the city further as the downtown continues to develop, a boon to meeting planners intent targeting the destination for incentive groups.

This latest legislation comes on the heels of sweeping changes to Utah's oft-criticized liquor laws, including the elimination of the state's private club system.

These combined statutes further ‘normalize' the city's and state's liquor laws, which are now on par with most other states.

In addition, the City Creek Center Project, a premier retail, office and residential development, will rise on nearly 20 acres across three blocks in the city's heart, with plans for completion in 2012.

The project will be a sustainably designed, walk-able urban community, complete with the reopening of the historic downtown, along with fountains, gardens and public space.
