Salt Lake City (May 2009)-Red Butte Garden, located on the campus of the University of Utah at the base of the Wasatch Mountains, is the largest botanical garden that tests, displays and interprets regional horticulture within a 400 miles of Salt Lake, and is one of more than a dozen attractions offered on the Visit Salt Lake Connect Pass.
Red Butte Garden boasts 18 acres of maintained display gardens and more than two miles of hiking trails in adjacent Red Butte Canyon. The maintained displays contain over 20,000 plants with 2,500-plus unique species of native and non-native plants, ensuring that something is always in bloom.
Red Butte Garden boasts displays for all ages about regional horticulture, plant science and ecology, offering fun and education for all ages, including a specific children's area. With its wide diversity and beauty of the plant life, Red Butte Garden offers numerous photo opportunities. There are numerous benches and quiet places to relax and enjoy the beautiful, serene environment. Aside from the maintained displays, there are more than 80 acres of preserved area in Red Butte Canyon offering a glimpse into the natural wonder and beauty of the Wasatch Mountains.
Easy access for all ages is provided by wide, paved walking paths traversing the Garden, and carts are available for the elderly and disabled. Free parking is available at the Garden visitor's center, as is a gift shop.
During the summer months, Red Butte Garden hosts a special concert series at its recently upgraded amphitheatre, which now seats over 3,000. There are also special events, classes and displays throughout the year.
