Smart Meetings - by Nikki Gloudeman - October 2013 - Skiers and snowboarders are quick to point out the virtues of the Greater Salt Lake City area, from steep runs and fresh powder to plenty of excellent infrastructure, thanks in large part to the region’s successful hosting of the 2002 Winter Olympics.

The problem is that these assets tend to dominate the narrative; for many, Greater Salt Lake City is seen exclusively as a jumping-off place for winter fun. Anyone who lives in or frequently travels to the area knows this is simply not true.

Consider the beauty of the changing landscapes once winter passes: blankets of wildflowers in the spring and summer, trees that turn a brilliant shade of gold in the fall. When the snow melts, adventure takes on exciting new forms, as visitors hike and bike through the verdant hills, scout birds in national parks, ride horses, soar in hot-air balloons or zip down alpine coasters. After winter, hotels and meeting venues often drop their rates, making these seasons, especially spring and fall, great for value as well.

No one would argue that Salt Lake City and its surrounding areas - Park City, Heber Valley, Davis County, Weber County, Provo and Utah Valley - are not sublime winter destinations. But they are equally enticing in summer, spring and fall. Whatever season you select, your meeting is sure to reach new heights in these alpine locales.
