After spending seven years instructing multi-week wilderness mountaineering courses, Jim transitioned into working as a photographer and writer. He's found a niche shooting human-powered adventures and wilderness trips in places like Mongolia, Bolivia, and Antarctica but also loves exploring his home range in the Wasatch. The rips in Jim's jacket sleeves are testament to his conviction that, even when the ski runs are tracked out, there's probably a powder stash on the other side of that thicket.

Best of Show: Steve Lloyd
Much of the world sees Utah's Wasatch Mountains through the vision of photographer Steve Lloyd. With photos published everywhere from Powder and Bike Magazine to commercial shoots for the likes of Karhu and Black Diamond, Lloyd has positioned himself as one of today's leading action sports photographers.
A Utah native, Steve Lloyd's talent for photography has grown alongside his passion for the outdoors. He continually strives to capture the raw essence and emotion of the sports and athletes he documents through color, light, and motion. Jay moved to Utah in 2009 for a chance to create a lifestyle focused on the outdoors within the Wasatch Mountains. Shortly after arriving he discovered his passion for photography and the joy it brought him. For the past 4 years he has spent most of his time exploring the endless photographic opportunities that exist in both Little and Big Cottonwood. Whether shooting ski, landscape or lifestyle photography, his main goal is to create memorable images that capture the natural beauty that exists within and beyond these mountains. While relatively new to action sports photography, he has quickly embraced the opportunity to work with many of the talented local athletes. The passion and work ethic of the athletes in the ski community has pushed him to raise his own level of work. Jay views it as an honor to compete amongst such accomplished and skilled photographers/athletes participating in the Salt lake Shootout.
Athletes: Tyler Peterson, Marcus Caston, Lexi Dowdall
Rylan Schoen never has a bad day in the mountains. He lives in Bellingham, WA, and the North Cascades are his home. Expansive landscapes, big storms, and a desire for adventure keep him rooted in the area. He despises the monotony of the hour-plus one-way drive, but immediately forgets these negative thoughts when the snow begins to weigh down the boughs of the old growth. He has been supporting himself full time with his photography for the past 4 years and can think of nothing else he would rather do. When not skiing, Rylan works with Google as a contracted photographer. He knows nothing about the search algorithm and would appreciate it if you would stop asking him for SEO tips. Rylan looks forward to storm days, fast internet, a great burrito, and most importantly a stable snowpack.
Athletes: Adam Roberts, Dex Mills, Alex Romashko
Tim Lloyd brings the international touch to the competition. Despite originating from the UK, Switzerland is now where he calls home with the European Alps at his fingertips. Tim's seasons intertwine as he puts as much energy into summertime trail running as he does skiing, with his love for alpine summers growing each year. Back in winter, his ski related work has seen him collaborate with a number of the leading movie production companies, work as a contributor to the ESPN Freeskiing website, and work on all of the European stops of the Freeride World Tour. Tim relishes the opportunity to make the long trip to Salt Lake City and can't wait to be stimulated, motivated, and no doubt humbled by the other photographer's work.
Athletes: Matt Philippi, Ben Wheeler, Keely Kelleher
