Ski Salt Lake Shootout

March 5-11, 2012
Now in its fifth consecutive year, the Ski Salt Lake Shootout is again pairing up the hottest photographers and local pro athletes to battle it out for cash prizes and bragging rights as they attempt to capture the magic of the Cottonwood Canyon resorts and Ski Salt Lake on film and sensor.

New This Year
Photographers who had previously competed in the Ski Salt Lake Shootout were eligible to apply for 2012! May the best photographer win! 

The Contest

The contest will be held over a four-day period, with one day dedicated to each respective Cottonwood Canyon resort: Alta, Snowbird, Brighton and Solitude. Imagery will be submitted at the end of the week in the following categories:

Ski Salt Lake Portfolio
Each photographer will submit a portfolio of eight photographs showcasing the best two images shot at each resort. Portfolios should capture the magic of each Cottonwood Canyon resort -- showcasing what truly makes each resort special.

• 1st Place Portfolio - $3,000
• 2nd Place Portfolio - $2,000
• 3rd Place Portfolio - $1,000

Urban Meets Mountain
Ski Salt Lake is unrivaled when it comes to accessibility. You can ski all day at a world-class resort, and spend your evenings dining in an urban setting, going to a Jazz game or concert.
Each photographer will submit one photo depicting this urban city, disguised as a mountain town.

• Urban City meets Mountain Town Category - $1,000

Facebook Favorite
Each photographer will submit his/her best overall shot of the week. This photo will be included in an online voting process, run through Visit Salt Lake's facebook page. The photo that receives the most votes within a 7-day period wins. Simple as that!
Of the “Facebook Favorite” submissions, an additional cash prize will be awarded to the athlete whose photo receives the most votes.

Transportation

Competitors will receive complimentary airfare to and from Salt Lake City, Utah as well as lodging and transportation while in town.*

*Complimentary airfare provided for photographers traveling within North America only. International competitors will be considered for the competition, but may be required to cover a portion of travel expenses. Local photographers will receive reimbursement for all driving costs while participating in the competition.

Schedule

Monday, March 5: Travel day for out-of-state photographers, with a mandatory Opening Social for all photographers and athletes in the evening.

Tuesday, March 6: Shooting Day at Alta, Brighton, Snowbird or Solitude

Wednesday, March 7: Shooting Day at Alta, Brighton, Snowbird or Solitude

Thursday, March 8: Shooting Day at Alta, Brighton, Snowbird or Solitude

Friday, March 9: Shooting Day at Alta, Brighton, Snowbird or Solitude

Saturday, March 10: Photos due by 9 a.m. Judging process to be overseen by Powder Magazine Editorial Staff. Awards Party in the evening.

Sunday, March 11: Travel Day for out-of-state photographers

The Fine Print 

Participating photographer agrees to provide one (1) high resolution image from each Ski Salt Lake resort from their "Ski Salt Lake Shootout Portfolio" as well as one "Urban Meets Mountain" photo (five images in total). Photographer agrees to give unlimited rights to these five (5) images for an unlimited amount of time to Ski Salt Lake, Alta, Brighton, Snowbird, and Solitude (images may be used for marketing purposes, submission to media outlets for publication, and usage by convention and tour groups for destination promotion). Photographer retains ownership of said images. Photographer also agrees to give one-time publication rights of winning images to a media partner (Powder Magazine) for a Ski Salt Lake Shootout feature story to run in 2012. Photographer also agrees to one-year web use of winning images on VisitSaltLake.com and affiliated resort blogs.
