The hills are once again turning white and our friends at Snowbird sent us this video that we had to share. After watching it once, watch it again and close your eyes at 2:12 and you can almost feel the powder faceshot.
Winter…it’s almost here! Get yourself hooked up on the 4th Night Stay and Ski Free deal and put yourself in that video this year.
With the latest storm that passed through a couple of days ago cooling things off considerably and the fact that Salt Lake’s Ski Resorts are all less than one month away from their scheduled opening dates, skiing is definately on the brain. Adding fuel to the fire are the number of pass and gear deals that are out there to be had.
I’m not sure about you but long gone are the days when a week long ski vacation is the norm. 3-day weekends have been more popular as I’ve talked to skiers and snowboarders while riding the lifts the past few years, especially thanks to the Salt Lake airport being just 30 minutes from the resorts which makes the travel time a non-issue. The thought of taking a perfectly good 3-day weekend ski trip and pushing it to 4 days for no extra cost makes getting faceshots all the more enjoyable. continue reading…
There’s definately snow in the air and that means one thing this time of the year: Ski Swaps. Ever been to a ski swap at the moment the masses are let loose to search for this years “new” planks? It can be both entertaining as well as down right competitive. Perhaps more so than trying to score first tram at Snowbird on a powder day.
Competitive nature aside, the Ski Swaps in and around Salt Lake are often some of the best places to score a sweet deal on some skis, boots or even your next outfit. Prices are often unimaginable and many of the swaps are benefits for local organizations. continue reading…
There is a variety of different things to do in Utah in the summer. There’s biking and hiking and swimming. There’s the Hogle Zoo and Red Butte Gardens.
So when I managed to get my hands on some Salt Lake Connect Passes earlier this summer, I was pretty excited! I thought, look at all this cool, new stuff I get to try in Salt Lake!
Then I found out I could take the Snowbird Summer Tram with them and I buckled. Like a great floating beast it began calling to me. “Jakeeeee…There’s probably still snowww up heree,” “Jakeeeeee…You need to go skiing right now!”
Well…I folded like a cheap suit. What I thought was going to be the summer I beat my skiing demons away with mountain bikes and boat trips, lasted only 39 days. I am a weak, weak man.
Your local mountain may be closed, but here in UT we’re reaping the benefits of Snowbird’s 130″ base well into the spring season. I predict great skiing into summer…just like last year
This year the Ski Salt Lake Shootout which took place in late February was once again a success. Great imagery was captured and a number of top photographers and athletes alike sampled Salt Lake’s Cottonwood Canyons for the first time.
But it didn’t go off comletely without a hitch. For photographer Court Leve, who ended up taking home two first place category awards, it was quite the adventure. Court sent us his tale of how the week went for him here in Utah which is good enough to publish here with his two winning photos (below).
Since March 22 over 14 FEET of snow has fallen in Little Cottonwood Canyon. What was looking like an early start to spring skiing has quickly transformed into mid winter conditions with yet another storm on track for this weekend. The Greatest Snow on Earth keeps stacking up here in Utah.
Yes, skiing here in Salt Lake is still in full swing. Lodging deals are plentiful and the snow even more so. Snowbird sent us this video from a few days ago when the sun peaked out one day in between storms.
Oh Utah, your spring skiing makes my heart melt. Typical skiing in April for me used to consist of a hoodie and lots of sunscreen. Since moving here it has involved having to hang and dry my ski clothes every night because they are soaked in a small fraction of the almost 200″ of snow that has fallen in Little Cottonwood Canyon in the last 3 weeks.
Ullr, I will never doubt you again (as long as it keeps snowing)…
